Americare Technical School (ATS) is a private vocational school offering certificate and diploma programs in nursing education. The school first opened its doors in 2004 offer high quality practical nursing education where our core curriculum ensures that our students acquire the fundamental skills and broad knowledge necessary to succeed. Admissions

General admissionUnlike other schools that have a waitlist of up to two years, there is absolutely no waiting list at Americare Technical School. Once you become registered as an Americare student, you are automatically accepted into the Practical Nursing program semester entrance of your choice. There are some general admission requirements.1. You must provide documentation of graduation from an accredited high school or state-approved secondary education curriculum, or documentation of high school graduation equivalency,2. Depending on your program of interest, you may have to meet special enrollment requirements 3. Students are responsible for ensuring the school receives all documentation. Records become the property of the school.

Financial AidConcerns about costs shouldn't keep you from pursuing your goals. An education is an investment in yourself that can pay dividends in personal satisfaction and professional success. Our dedicated staff helps qualified students obtain financial assistance to meet educational expenses. Financial assistance is available for those who qualify. Certified Nursing Assistant

Practical Nursing Program

Americare Technical School offers a weekend schedule for its 10-week Certified Nursing Assistant Program. Our CNA program prepares students both practically and emotionally for the job of a certified nursing assistant, nurses known most often as "direct care workers" as their job duties usually entail taking care of patients in the long term. What are Americare CNA graduates qualified to do?Although state requirements vary, generally upon completion of the CNA program and the successful passing of a competency exam, an Americare CNA is placed on the states registry of CNAs, which provides proof that he or she has completed a training program. He or she may work in hospitals, nursing and residential care centers, mental health facilities, and in patients homes. Specific job duties vary by work setting, but at the end of Americare's CNA Program, our students may do the following: take vital signs; help patients eat, bathe, dress, and walk; reposition patients in their beds; observe patients and report changes to supervisors; tidy patients room; help set up equipment and stock supplies, etc.For more information on your states requirements, you should contact your State Nurse Aide Registry and/or State Licensing Board. Note also that workers in health care facilities may have to submit to drug tests and criminal background checks in order to secure employment. What's the schedule like?Lectures are held every Saturday 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM and the last five weeks consist of Saturday and Sundays from 7:00 AM-3:00 PM for clinical rotations. Review classes and CPR classes are also held as part of the program, which will be announced according to the respective instructor.What are the admission requirements?•Must be at least 18 years of age and a high school graduate or its equivalent•Submit proof of CPR certification (may become certified through the School)•Submit TB test results (may be tested at the School)•Must possess good moral character. The Health Care Worker Registry lists individuals with a criminal background check conducted pursuant to the Health Care Worker Background Check Act.•Submit to a Criminal Background Check
The Practical Nursing program at Americare Technical School balances classroom instruction with clinical experience. Students receive a solid foundation in the areas of medical-surgical nursing, pediatrics, obstetrics, geriatrics, and pharmacology. Graduates of this program qualify to pursue the LPN State Board licensure.What are Americare LPN graduates qualified to do?Upon completion of this program, the graduate is prepared for an entry-level nursing position in a hospital, nursing home, clinic, or other healthcare facility. Their job duties may include taking vital signs, administering medications, collecting samples for testing, and providing other basic care.The Americare Practical Nursing Program offers students courses on the following:•The structure and function of the human body.•Instruction and laboratory practice in the principles of administering medications, the development of critical thinking skills, and dosage calculation.•How to treat various health problems, with a focus upon the role of the practical nurse as a member of the healthcare team in caring for patients.What's the schedule like?We have education that fits your schedule. Most of our students work at least part-time, and many have family responsibilities on top of that. But at Americare Technical School, they're able to find a balance between the demands of school and life. In most classes you can focus on one or two courses at a time instead of trying to juggle the work of several classes and cramming for multiple exams all at once. For more questions, ask for an appointment with one of our admissions representatives.What are the admission requirements?•Successful completion of an accredited CNA program and submit current CNA certification for the state of Illinois•Proof of current CPR certification•Successful completion of the five prerequisite courses•Successful completion of the Test of Essential Academic Skills - TEAS entrance exam with a passing overall rate of 60% - www.ATITesting.com•Submit health clearance form•Submit to a Criminal Background CheckPrerequisite CoursesProspective LPN students must successfully pass all five prerequisite courses (Introduction to Heatlh Science, Medical Terminology, Mathematics for Nurses, Introduction to Psychology, Fundamentals of Computers) with a minimum grade of 'C.' Students who do not pass may only repeat a course for a total of two times. Transfer CreditFor those who wish to transfer credits, Americare Technical School evaluates credits for transfer from accredited colleges, universities, and vocational schools based on:•The accreditation of the institution where credits were earned.•The age of credits. Credits older than five years are not accepted.•The compatibility of course descriptions and objectives with those of courses in the program at Americare Technical School.•The grade earned must be at least a C, or 2.00 on a 4.00 scale.
